Better Sleep For Healthy Living

Treating Common Sleep Issues for Adults & Children

Sleep disorders are a multifactorial, whole-body connection that takes investigative work to find the root cause. Stillwater Dental takes the time to listen to patients and collaborate with other providers to devise a thorough, (w)holistic plan for our patients. We believe that it takes a team approach to give you the best care possible that’s why our patients can expect compassionate care.

Common Sleep Problems

Sleep apnea is the cessation of breathing during sleep and is a common problem that affects both adults and children. In the long term, chronic sleep deprivation may lead to a host of health problems including high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even early mortality.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea Include:

  • Headaches
  • Poor Concentration
  • Loss of Libido
  • Tiredness of waking
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty waking up in the morning
  • Poor performance in school, on the job, or in sports
  • Increased clumsiness
  • Falling asleep during work or class

Your Child & Sleep Apnea

Oral appliance therapy is an effective treatment option for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Worn only during sleep, an oral appliance fits like a sports mouthguard or an orthodontic retainer. It supports the jaw in a forward position to help maintain an open upper airway. Research shows that oral appliance therapy is an effective treatment option for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

The Advantages

If you and your doctor decide that oral appliance therapy is the best treatment option for you, then your doctor will write a prescription for you to receive a custom-made oral appliance. You also will receive a referral to a qualified dentist who can provide oral appliance therapy. Oral appliance therapy is covered by many medical insurance plans.

Commonly referred to as a Tongue or Lip Tie Release is a liberation of the tongue or lip from anatomical restrictions that prevent proper nasal breathing, speech and can contribute to a myriad of other health issues.

Frenuloplasty Procedure

Frenectomy or Frenuloplasty, is a relatively minor surgical procedure performed to loosen or remove overly large, tight, or poorly positioned band(s) of tissue that are present inside the mouth, connected to the lip, cheeks or floor of the mouth (frenum.) Once the tissue has been removed, the wound will typically be sutured. Frenuloplasty is a quick procedure, generally taking less than 45 minutes, and is often performed with just local anesthesia in adults.
