Common Sleep Treatment Options

Oral Appliances Available at Stillwater Dental Bend

In many instances, a sleep disorder develops in response to late jaw growth, over crowded teeth, or other reasons, such as tooth loss. The good news is that treatments for adult patients can be very efficient. Common treatment options include the following:

  • Adult orthodontic treatment: healthy teeth can be moved at any age, so there is no such thing as being too old for braces or Invisalign®. However, adult jaws are no longer growing, so the orthodontic treatment plans will vary.
  • Surgical cases and airway treatment: many sleep and airway-related issues stem from underlying discrepancies in the jaws. When your jaw is in the right place you will breathe better, sleep better, and experience a higher quality of life.
  • Non-surgical alternatives: oral-appliances and Myofunctional therapy are a great option for those who are intolerant to CPAP, travel often, and/or don’t want to undergo jaw surgery.

Is an Oral Appliance Right For You?

Oral appliance therapy can be a very effective treatment choice for people suffering with obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. However, not all oral appliances are the same, and far more important than the oral appliance itself is the experience and skill of the doctor treating you with the oral appliance therapy.
